Solutions to the Glass Recycling Problem w/ Bricolage Dynamics │ LOTM Ep. 17
Glass is one of the most recyclable materials used in packaging. In fact, the material itself is 100% recyclable, and can be recycled endlessly without a loss of quality. So, if that’s the case, then why is only one third of the glass in the US being recycled? Many recycling centers in the country don’t even accept glass, making it difficult for those who would like to recycle it. However, Zeb Parsons and the team at Bricolage Dynamics are working to change that. We got to sit down with Zeb to learn about the problems he sees with glass recycling today, and how Bricolage Dynamics is looking to take your old glass and turn it into sand.

      It's hard to believe, but the glass rock really feels pretty similar to rock when handling. That being said, to prevent shredded hands when recycling glass, workers should wear cut-resistant gloves and adhere to safe handling practices.

    Is there way to transforming old glass battle into new one or broken glass battle into new one

    • @Packagingschool
      @Packagingschool 21 день тому

      Transforming old or broken glass bottles into new ones isn't typically feasible due to the complexities involved in glass recycling. However, glass recycling processes can turn old or broken glass bottles into new glass products, such as jars, containers, or fiberglass. The process involves crushing the glass into cullet (small pieces), melting it in a furnace, and then forming it into new shapes. While the glass may not become the exact same bottle again, it can be repurposed into various useful items through recycling. Plastics and recyclability? Going to have to call you out on that. Try cheap and light weight.

    • @Packagingschool
      @Packagingschool 29 днів тому

      It's true that plastics are often chosen for their affordability and lightweight properties, which make them popular materials for a wide range of products. However, their recyclability varies depending on factors such as the type of plastic, the infrastructure available for recycling in a particular region, and the market demand for recycled materials. While some plastics, such as PET (polyethylene terephthalate) used in water bottles, and HDPE (high-density polyethylene) used in milk jugs, are commonly recycled, others, like PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and certain types of polystyrene, can be more challenging to recycle due to their chemical composition or lack of market demand for recycled versions. Additionally, even though plastics may be technically recyclable, not all of them end up being recycled due to issues like contamination, lack of proper sorting, or inefficient recycling infrastructure. This can lead to plastic waste accumulating in landfills or polluting the environment. So, while plastics are indeed chosen for their affordability and lightweight nature, their recyclability can vary, and addressing the challenges associated with plastic recycling requires concerted efforts from industry, policymakers, and consumers alike.

    Just opened a bag of Lay's Masterpiece BBQ flavored chips. The bag costed two dollars and thirty-nine cents. Its 2 1/4 Ounces. Not only was the bag filled with more Slack Fill than chips but theres less than 20 chips in the bag just by looking at them. I am never EVER buying bagged chips again. Straight up scam. Straight up robbery. I'll be sticking with Pringles until the day I die. I remember back in the day you could get this same sized bag for 99 cents and actually have the bag be 75 percent chips. 25 percent slack fill. Now it's the opposite and they are charging more!

    The reason for multilayer packaging is its longer product shelf life, oxygen barrier properties and water vapour transmission rate. Multilayer often uses PE, HDPE in the outer layer and may use a thin layer of better barrier materials such as aluminium, ethyl vinyl alcohol, etc (EVA) and some adhesive to bind them. In food packaging, milk cartons these materials usage may be lesser than in a plastic bottle that stores chemicals like fertilizer, oils etc. Moving to mono-materials especially bio-degradable ones can be a little tricky especially with trade off in shelf life and degradability of materials and regarding food, the leaching of plastics and impurities with the plastics into the food. Nevertheless, the pursuit in the substitution of these materials is our key focus.
